Happy Menstrual Hygiene Day 2024! This year, in collaboration with Minazi Consulting, we proudly launched Menstrual Hygiene Week at our headquarters. This initiative focuses on educating the community about menstrual health and distributing sustainable eco-friendly sanitary pads.
The Menstrual Hygiene Week aims to raise awareness about menstrual health and hygiene. Today we began our campaign at Primary School Ikerekezo, where Dr. Aakeen (PhD) from Minazi Consulting led an informative session on menstrual hygiene with students and their teachers. She explained the biological processes behind menstruation, dispelling myths and encouraging open discussions among students. The goal of this talks is to empower young girls with knowledge, to reduce stigma, the number of girls who drop out of schools due to the lack of suitable materials to use during their periods. Statistics show that 2 out of 5 girls cannot continue their school during their periods. To reduce these statistics, it is important to foster a supportive environment where menstrual health is understood and respected.
Following the educational session, we provided reusable sanitary pads to the school. These pads, produced at our headquarters from banana fibers, represent our commitment to sustainability and practical menstrual health solutions. The eco-friendly pads are designed to be durable, comfortable, and cost-effective, providing a reliable alternative to disposable products.
Our efforts extend beyond Primary School Ikerekezo. From May 28 to June 1, we are dedicated to distributing 1,000 reusable sanitary pads to girls and women in the community. Each day of Menstrual Health Week will feature educational workshops and pad distribution events at various locations, ensuring that we reach as many individuals as possible. Our aim is to make sustainable and necessary menstrual hygiene products accessible and to educate the community on the importance of sustainable menstrual practices.
As we celebrate Menstrual Health Day 2024, we invite everyone to join us in our mission to not only promote menstrual health and sustainability but also to help us achieve our missions through https://www.dufatanye.org/donate, we would love you to get involved by volunteering, supporting or partnering with us. We are committed to making a positive impact on menstrual health in our community. Menstrual Health Week is a crucial part of efforts, and we are excited to continue this work beyond the designated week by continuing to produce more sanitary pads and run our program annually. Thank you for supporting our initiatives and helping us create a more informed and sustainable future for menstrual health.
